Polytetrafluoroethylene PTFE (Teflon™) is an engineering plastic characterized by very good sliding properties, high abrasion resistance, a high operating temperature, and excellent chemical resistance.
Advantages of PTFE material:
- excellent chemical resistance to most chemicals
- excellent thermal resistance; can operate at temperatures ranging from -200 °C to +260 °C (short-term: up to 300 °C)
- excellent sliding properties
- extremely low surface tension (practically no materials stick to PTFE)
- very good electrical insulation properties
- flame resistance
Teflon is approved for contact with food by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) – it is an inert material that does not react with food
Applications of PTFE:
- components used at high temperatures
- components exposed to chemicals
- conveyor rollers, slide bearings, and sleeves
- components of the laboratory equipment
- slides and flat bars
